hi, what you reading at the moment?
We are Charlotte Runcie and Alice Vincent, and this is In Haste: a literary magazine and podcast dedicated to books and writing. We’re both authors now, but we met on the arts desk of a broadsheet newspaper at a time when Alice dedicated a tote bag to carrying The Goldfinch and Charlotte was so engrossed reading A Girl is a Half-Formed Thing on the Tube that she ended up in Theydon Bois by mistake. Times may have changed, but we still read a lot and we write a fair amount too. One Friday afternoon a WhatsApp exchange got out of hand and In Haste was born. It’s nice to see you here.
what we publish
The clue’s in the name: we write and edit In Haste alongside our other commitments - the books we’re writing, the research we’re undertaking, the children we’re raising. In Haste was created in the spirit of pointing out that a lot of creative work happens around the sides of life and we live that daily - our WhatsApp group icon is of Alice’s half-stacked dishwasher, you can find out why here. We know you’re busy too, so we won’t be cluttering up your inbox.
We create really good, 30-minute podcast episodes, where we interview authors and talk about books. We write short essays that make you think differently about the titles on your shelves, and turn you onto new ones. Think of us as the well-read friend you ask for new reading recommendations before you go on holiday. Most of it sits behind a paywall, because we value the work of our illustrator Alicia Fernandes, producer Holly Fisher and musician Maria Chiara Argiró and we want to pay them for it. In subscribing to In Haste, you allow it to exist ad-free.

How deep can a short story go? with Thomas Morris
It’s something that’s very difficult to explain, those rare moments of connection that happen when your writing chimes with something you didn’t even realise you’d been needing to express.
Why don't we have enough time? with Oliver Burkeman
There’s a deep peace in the underlying manifesto of Four Thousand Weeks, which I did read in the end, and which altered me forever: you will never, ever, in any circumstances, get to do all the things on the great to-do list of your life. The world is too big, and we are too small. Life is too short. Death is coming. I’m sorry.
Can your diary be a bestseller? with Amy Liptrot
It’s one of those dreams that can exist for non-fiction authors: that you write a diary, and one day it ushers you into the realm of a prize-winning Sunday Times Bestseller. It worked for Amy, and so it could work for us, too, right?
The best things are born of those conversations that get out of hand! 🤣
Just had your podcast recommended as I recently published a list of books to inspire Wanderlust and included Charlotte's Salt on your Tongue- and this looks brilliant! I also recommended Amy Liptrot's two books, so it looks like this is a happy place to have discovered :)
