Thank you Charlotte and Alice - I loved this episode. I hadn't heard about Sunyi's book (not usually a fantasy reader although I love dystopian fiction) and have just ordered it as it sounds brilliant. Alice - I attended your Arvon masterclass and found it so useful - have started making notes of every little thing I might find a connection with to weave into my work. Your advice and the prompts and exercises opened my neural pathways about how to do this! Very valuable - thank you :)

I loved this episode. I have always loved the fantasy/dystopia genre although of late I’ve found it overrun with sexy fantasy which (I don’t know what’s wrong with me) bores me.

I’m in awe of the writers who can build world and I loved what Sunyi had to say on making the world for the characters.

I would suggest Sara Douglas’s The Troy Game series as a great place to start with fantasy. She reincarnates characters through four different ages of Britton. So it’s familiar yet fantastical.

this topic is so interesting! I just came out of a dune 2 screening, and definitely understand the overwhelm that comes with hard fantasy. although there was a lot going on, I definitely saw the real world parallels with religious fanaticism + rise of fascism (and now want to dive deeper into the series!)
