Using a lot of prompts to nudge the writing along. Thinking about artistic voice and revisiting textile work and thinking about the stories I told through colour, texture and shape. It is proving to be an intriguing way to explore why I write.
I also love reading books related to the city/country I'm in, and exactly as you described Alice, learning about the history/surroundings while on a sun lounger 🌞
Ok! What a great episode. You sold me on Three Men in a Boat, and I just ordered it. I'm writing non-fiction right now and my most recent summer read was Killers of the Flower Moon. Very interesting how the first part of the book is narration of events with third-person POV, but in the end the narrator assumes first person POV as he became involved with the research and expanded it through interviews with people still alive who had personal knowledge of the events. It's with a sense of despair and admiration that he ends the book by quoting an interviewee who looks at a graveyard of victims and says quietly, "Their blood cries out from the ground." Not just a great read but also a primer on how a NF writer can end up part of the story, in fact a kind of protagonist.
I’m revisiting writing in retirement and it goes in fits and starts. I had a writing partner to help me stay “on track” but that fizzled when she discovered that writing a novel is hard! I’ve discovered this week that taking HOURS to write one page happens. LOL. Blocking off time to write on my calendar helps. Recognizing that a lot of “writing” can cogitate while taking the dog for a long walk or talking to a friend keeps me from getting too self-deprecating when I have an unproductive week. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Oooh this sounds very intriguing
Oooh just in time for my weekly listen on the way to baby music class - and ahead of my holiday next week! What wonderful timing 😍
